Creating a personal brand seems like it would be easy because you’re creating an impression of yourself. Creating my brand, I had to really sit down with myself and think. I googled myself and only found my high school accomplishments and social media. Would I like to change how I’m viewed when googled? Absolutely. I want to be known for who I am as a person, not what people see on the internet. I asked my family, friends, and some of my old coworkers how they view me. Compassionate, loyal, competitive, and responsible were the most common descriptions I got. I’m glad my loved one sees me as these things–now I need to find a way to make these things my personal brand. As I write this, I’m still in the process of creating my personal brand. Finding my target audience is complex because right now, it’s my professor viewing my work. My future target audience is future employers and people who want to see my work. My personal brand is an ongoing process that, as of right now, is in the beginning stage.
When I searched my name up on Google, I saw my social media and basketball highlights come up. Also, a bunch of other Anna Maxeys came up too. If an employer were to search me up, they would see my accomplishments in high school and what I post on my social media. If I didn’t play basketball, only my social media would come up. It’s very true that our social media is how people view and perceive us. As of right now, I’m okay with my social media being my brand. As I create more creative pieces in my classes and my job, my brand will expand. I would like my brand to be known as being creative and reliable, regardless of the work I’m doing.
I asked my family, friends, and previous coworkers about my best qualities and things I’m irreplaceable in. The things they said were what I was expecting them to say. Compassionate and loyal were the most common 2 adjectives. One of my previous coworkers said I always take initiative to get things done, which I really loved. To my loved ones, I’m known as a hard-worker and I want my personal brand to reflect that!
In 6 months, the only thing I know I’ll be doing is travelling. I don’t have a certain plan for 6 months in the future, just whatever happens, happens. However, later on in the future (particularly in a year), I will be a sophomore in college and will be cutting down on what I want to major in. Right now, it’s communication studies and I don’t see it changing, but a lot can happen in a year. What I would like to happen in 5 years is to be working for a company I enjoy and will be stable enough to provide for myself. I have no idea what company or what I wanna do as a career, but I want to be able to use my creativity and competitive skills for something big. My 10 year plan consists of starting my own business and having a family. Family meaning a husband and a few pets…we’ll see about having kids. Owning my own business has been a dream of mine. All my life, I’ve been put in leadership situations and it’s where I thrive. Do I know what I want my business to be? No, but something where I can be creative everyday and take time off when needed.
My personal brand now is a college student who is trying to pinpoint exactly what she wants to be. I want to be known as a hard-worker who can be counted on to get work completed fast and efficiently.
